Resolution, the national organisation for family lawyers, has published revised guidance on how their members should operate when faced with a litigant in person.
The Guide to Good Practice for Family Lawyers on Working with Litigants in Person was updated in November 2014 is available to download from the Resolution site here.
The Guide makes clear that their members have signed up to a Code of Practice and that the ethos behind that Code should be in their mind at all times. It then goes on to give ideas of how a solicitor can handle the different stages of the process, how they should communicate with and LiP and what any lay helpers such as a McKenzie Friend can and cannot do.
If you are representing yourself it is worth reading as an insight into how you can expect a Resolution member to behave in any dealings you may have.
